Teams
Twenty teams have been selected to compete in the next Solar Decathlon, which takes place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in October 2009.
- Oct. 1—Teams arrive at the National Mall and begin assembly of their houses
- Oct. 8-16—Teams compete in 10 contests
- Oct. 9-18—Houses open to the public
- Oct. 19-21—Teams disassemble their houses
The Solar Decathlon is an international collegiate competition in which student teams compete to design, build, and operate highly energy-efficient, completely solar-powered houses that incorporate building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). For the 2009 event, teams will be awarded $100,000 over two years to support the Solar Decathlon's research goal of reducing the cost of solar-powered homes and advancing solar technology.
