The Solar Decathlon is an educational project of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Information for Kids

The Solar Decathlon is a competition for college students, but solar energy is exciting for students of all ages! Solar energy really means that we can use the light from the sun to make electricity. Students in the Solar Decathlon need to make enough electricity from the sun to "turn on and run" their houses (so they can watch TV and use the computer).
